Hola!
Woah, tough first day. But I wasn't the only one... Arrived in Lima today, this morning I guess at 1am, got to my home around 2:30 am, and went to bed I think somewhere around 4 am. Then comes a knock on my door after I hit the snooze button a few times (7:30 ish), and a girl saying you ready? Okay I need you to be ready in like 5-10 minutes, I'm going to show you girls how to take the combi to get to the Universidad del Pacifico.
So I stuff some things into my pack, brush my teeth, throw on some clothes and go downstairs. There are three girls in the dining room, two came here yesterday and are in the same program/classes as me. Molly and Rachael, they are from Princeton and 20 years old. The other, Nicole, is leaving tonight at 12. She has been here for 2 months and knew her stuff. Man I wish she is still around. Anyway, there was fresh juice on the table, thick with a few inches of foam and a couple inches of juice. Fruit is unknown, but I liked it - alot. So much so that the other girls didnt so I finished it for them on the way out. Then I put some manjar (kinda looks like peanut butter but tastes like dulce de leche on some bread. Scarfed that down and then we were off. We hailed down a combi ( a crazy taxi/bus mix public transport) There were probably already ten persons in the mini (very mini) van, so when the four of us boarded we had to stand. Stood the whole way, about 40 minutes, crouched over because the ceiling was too low. Finally our stop, where we yelled 'baja' and the man opened the door and we piled out. The whole ride was crazy, horns tooting high pitched little toots and the driver almost hitting other cars the whole time, witht he man crouched by the sliding door yelling at people on the street soliciting for more passengers.
Ah, you know what I gotta sleep. I'll wrap it up. We walked - all day long, spoke what Spanglish I could. Tomorrow I begin classes, and I hope I know how to get there. But as far as necessities, Im good. I have a very very full belly, just took a shower and now sleep. I'll write more tomorrow. It's been a crazy day, very fun, but very busy. Hasta manana.
